UCLA's
Kerchkoff Hall in the Ackerman Union building was undergoing a renovation in the late
1990's.
I was originally hired to shop for appropriate antiques for the project, particularly
lighting
and fireplace tools. These were not available to match within the clients budget. As a
result
I proposed creating custom period fixtures as a solution. Adhering to the original budget,
8 large
gothic Arts & Crafts style sconces were designed & fabricated. Also, fireplace
tools and a table were
created. It was the first project that I did using CAM (computerized cutting using .dxf
files).
Realizing the tremendous potential as an art media, & seeing first hand the difficult
challenges that
has precluded curvilinear design, I made it my mission TO MAKE MACHINES SING.

NOTE: THE CEILINGS IN
THE CHARLES YOUNG SALON ARE 26 FEET
& THE LIGHTING FIXTURES ARE ALMOST 2 FEET TALL.
